Our Mission Statement
"Loving Option, an Adoption Placement Center,
Inc., is a licensed, Christian child placement agency that
provides
comprehensive adoption services with the objective of preparing
and informing birthparents and prospective adoptive parents
of the adoption process through counseling and education."
Loving Option was founded in 1992, as an
adoption placement center. We are a 501c3 not-for-profit agency.
Many times,
there are so many questions that go unanswered and unasked
in the process, that we hope this
will assist you with some questions you may have.
First of
all, once we have prepared your homestudy, we continue to
serve you by preparing a profile of your family, which
we show to birthmothers/birthfathers. It is from this profile
that couples are chosen as adoptive families. These profiles
are non-identifying, therefore, you remain anonymous throughout
the process of selection.
Once you have been chosen by a birthmother/birthfather,
we will notify you at one of several opportunities, depending
on the wishes of the birthmother/birthfather. If the birthparent(s)
wish to meet you prior to the birth of the child, we will
schedule a meeting with you and the birthparent(s) in our
office, or some other private location. At this time, only
first names are exchanged, nothing more. If the birthparent(s)
wish you to be at the hospital for delivery of the child,
we make all possible arrangements for this to take place.
And, on some occasions, it has occurred that the birthparent(s)
do not wish to meet with the adoptive parents at all. At
all times, we try to respect the wishes of the birthparent(s),
but keep the best interests of the infant and the adoptive
couple in mind, as well.
So that you can be aware of what
we do from the time a birthparent contacts us, let me give
you a brief description of our services
for birthparents. We have a 24-hour phone service, so that
we are available to the birthparents any time of the day
or night. Once the birthparent contacts us, our staff meets
with them and begins the decision making process. We make
sure that the birthmother is getting proper medical care,
if she is insured or uninsured, we take care of getting the
birthmother onto Hoosier Healthwise, if she qualifies. If
the birthmother needs transportation to her doctor appointments,
we arrange that, or accompany her, depending on her wishes.
Our social worker plans as many meetings as she possibly
can with her between the time we are contacted and the time
of delivery. If she so chooses, our social worker will be
at the hospital with her to assist her with labor and delivery.
Our social worker is there to counsel her and help her through
the entire situation. Once the birthmother has made the placement,
we are still there for her. We contact her to see how she
is doing, making sure she is adjusting with this life-changing
time in her life. We are there for her for as long as she
needs us.
And, we are there for our adoptive couples offering ongoing
support and education throughout the adoption process. Plus,
we all are aware that not every placement
has a happy ending. A birthmother does not have to sign the
papers of relinquishment, and it becomes very emotional for
the potential adoptive couple. If that happens, we are there
to listen to you and comfort you.
All in all, Loving Option
is there to make the entire process easier for the adoptive
couple and the birthparent(s). We
want to make everyone’s transition an easier one.
