We want to share our story with you, and the possibility of parenting and raising your child compels us to share from our hearts. First we would like to share with you why we got married.
Anthony likes to say (for the fun of it) that we first met on the top of a tower at Warwick Castle in England. We actually met online through Yahoo Personals when Dee Dee picked Anthony out because the picture he had posted on his profile was of him on the top tower of Warwick Castle, which was a place she had also been to and loved. When people ask how we met Anthony always tells that story for a bit of romantic comedy J.
From Anthony:
I was drawn to Dee Dee by her strength of character and by the similarities we shared on our relationship with God, how to handle money, how we feel about family, and the importance of communication in relationship. Words I would use to describe her would include compassionate, helpful, considerate, intelligent, loving, tender, motivated, forgiving, merciful, trustworthy, flexible, moral, ethical, caring, and seeking after God’s will for her life. Her priorities center around helping others around her and relating to others. I see in her a desire to grow closer to Christ, to become more involved with church activities, and to continuously develop relationships with others in our church and elsewhere.
One of Dee Dee’s strongest passions in life, perhaps the strongest, has been to be a mother. Since we’ve been married, it has become very clear to me how strongly she feels about caring for children. In the past year, we have experienced the emotional rollercoaster that comes with infertility issues. And through that I’ve become convinced that if she had nothing else except the opportunity to be a mother, she would be happy.
Dee Dee is a very energetic individual who has developed a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Her most recent hobbies have been learning how to sew, garage saling, scrap booking, and reading. She has every Lori Wick book ever published. Some other authors she likes are Dee Henderson, Jane Austen, and any good clean romance.
From Dee Dee:
Because my father was a pastor throughout my whole childhood, I learned to cherish two great things. The first would be working with children and teens. I was very involved in helping with VBS, Bible quizzing, children’s church, and Sunday school, which is probably what led me to be a high school English teacher. My second greatest love is music, and singing in particular. I sing with my sister and my dad, occasionally do special music in church, and sing with the church choir every chance I get. This love of music carried over into college where I traveled for two summers with a music ministry team going to camps and churches all over the U.S. and Canada. I also like to play the guitar, although I am not as good as I would like to be at that. In fact, both of us play the piano and guitar (to some degree) and it is important to us that the child we raise have ample exposure to music in some fashion – learning an instrument, singing, or some other form of musical expression.
From Anthony:
During my early years, my family lived in a poor community in inner city Louisville, Kentucky. My parents had moved there initially to help with church planting and were able to develop and lead some community prayer groups in our immediate community. When I was 8, we moved to a house in Michigan out in the country on 5 acres. I loved it out in the country. There was space to ride my bike, run, play, and explore. Much of my childhood was spent entertaining myself in the fantasy of my own creativity. One of my favorite memories of childhood was the time and process I took to tame and train our barnyard cats, since we had quite a few wild cats around. This would take months at a time, and we eventually kept two as indoor/outdoor cats. My cat’s name was Tigger and my sister’s was Fluffy. I’ve been fond of cats ever since, which is why I love the two cats we have now, Autumn and Missy. I also like to read and collect rare and exotic stamps.
I was also lucky enough to have a friend my age who lived next door with whom I did a lot of things. It was in that friendship that other old hobbies were born like playing ping-pong, chess, wiffle-ball and softball. In my adult life my interests and hobbies have widened out. I currently have a weekly “guys’ night out.” In the winter, we play racquetball, wally-ball, and sometimes ping-pong. In the summer, we play disc golf, real golf, and tennis. A friend of ours also just bought a boat and we’ve been enjoying going up to the lake and tubing with them this summer.
Dee Dee and I also love to go camping. Every year, a group of us go tent camping once or twice each summer. Both Dee Dee and I really enjoy camping out and plan to continue that as a tradition in our family. Dee Dee likes to hike and fish and I like to go bike riding on trails. We really enjoy our time together. Another pastime we’ve enjoyed is downhill snow skiing. Every winter the same church group goes skiing one weekend in upper Michigan. Other passing hobbies or experiences I’ve had include mountain backpacking, canoeing, and mountain bike trail riding. Both of us also love to travel and have each spent several months out of the country.
We also like spending time with family. We frequently spend time with Dee Dee’s family, since they live very close by, either watching the Cubs play baseball, playing board games, or swimming in her parents’ pool. Even though I really like the Tigers, I am slowly becoming a Cubs fan by osmosis. My parents live further away and we get together with my sister and parents about once a month.
From Dee Dee:
Anthony is a tender-hearted guy who truly cares for and loves the people around him. I was drawn to him by his gentle nature, his love of the Lord, and his sense of humor. Things I would use to describe him are compassionate, a listener, intelligent, witty, forgiving, organized, perceptive, and a man after God’s own heart. God truly blessed us when we found each other.
The only thing missing in our lives is children. We believe that God has a special plan for our lives and that children will come in his timing. We have prayed and feel that God has planned adoption for us as a fulfillment of the desires he has put in our hearts to raise a family up in his name.
We appreciate your time in reading about us. May God bless you today.
