Our Family :
We are Jeremy and Maria. We are an interracial couple, Jeremy is white and Maria biracial. We have two biological children, Mary Makena (8) and Duncan (4). Even before we became parents we knew we wanted to adopt. We are Christians and always looking for God’s will in our lives and adoption is one of our callings. We feel one of our main roles as parents is to nurture our children’s spirituality and faith so they know they were created by a God who loves them for a higher purpose. We were high school sweethearts and married in 1995. Both of us have college degrees, Jeremy’s in communication and Maria’s in music. There is a lot of laughter and playfulness in our home. As a family we like going to the beach, hiking, playing tennis, cooking together, church activities and spending time with our extended family.
Maria is a stay at home mom. She sings when professional opportunities arise, but her priorities are at home. Maria is also the leader of our countywide homeschool group and a Girl Scout leader. Jeremy describes Maria as a caring, dedicated, and loving wife and mother.
Jeremy is a Human Resources Specialist, working with the same company for 12 years. He enjoys riding bikes with their children and the rare golf outing. Maria describes Jeremy as kind, hardworking, fun-loving and a patient father.
Our marriage has stood the test of time. We’ve been married for almost 13 years and love each other deeply. We enjoy long talks, cuddling up to
Mary is our oldest and as sweet as she is beautiful. She is praying for another sibling, and is very much the big sister to her little brother. She enjoys playing the piano, ballet, drawing, reading to her brother and spending time with our two cats.
Duncan is all boy, a whirlwind of fun and energy. He enjoys trucks, being read to, riding his bike, any sport with his Dad, and playing with our cats. He has said with glee that when the baby comes he’ll teach it how to sneak candy from the cupboard.
Our Home
We have been blessed with a great home to raise our children in. We live in a big house on .75 acres on a cul de sac. We have a playscape, woods behind us to enjoy nature, and a small hill perfect for sledding. Our finished basement is the “kid zone” and the first place Mary and Duncan’s friends head to when they come over.
As home educators it is important to us to give our children positive educational experiences. With our homeschool group we have gone on many wonderful field trips and service projects. Daily we provide a rich learning environment and relaxed atmosphere for our kids that encourages independent thinking and curiosity. As a result Mary and Duncan are happy and thriving.
Our Extended Family
Our relatives are very excited to meet our new family member. We are so thankful for our parents and siblings and for the love and attention they give our kids. Our new baby will be showered with this love as well from their grandparents and six aunts and uncles.
Our Friends
We have great friends. Three of our friends have adopted and between all of them there are nine adopted children. Our children are friends and six of the nine are of African descent. Their support and understanding mean a lot to us.
Why We Want To Adopt
Our desire to adopt is the same desire we had when we wanted to get pregnant. We know our third child is meant to come to us through adoption and we just want to hold him or her and love them. We will not feel complete until this happens and are just praying for the time to come soon. We also would like to adopt again in the future. Four children would be a huge blessing and joy to us. We are hoping to adopt a biracial or African American baby. As you can see, we have many different colors represented in our extended family and we delight in this. We’ve followed our heart and God’s voice and are patiently waiting for our precious baby.
God bless you always,
Maria and Jeremy
