Question for those that are waiting to adopt a child?

I keep hearing how people want to adopt a baby, and there are long waiting lists for a baby.
But, there are tons of children over 8 that also need a loving home, especially minority or special needs children?
Would you consider looking into adopting an older child instead of waiting a few years for an infant? Think about how long you might wait? Would it not be better to adopt a child who needs your love right now?

well i know this one from exprence i am 16 and in a foster home people dont wont us becouse thay think that we need more disaplin and we are not as esey to tame (i know we are not dogs but its true) thay dont whant us becose there is to much history behind us and thay dont know if thay can handle that i mean wold you wont a kid if thay had alot of history of drug abuse and vilence in the family and thay know about it vs a baby that did not know about it and thay probley wold not be as damaged i mean its only natrell to wont the babys its eser to keep them under a close eye there hole lives us you dont know are history or what we grow up knowing so if we are used to getting in troble and stuff i mean who wold you chuse the one you can teach or one like me that dont lisen to anyone cose we arre not use to it i mean its only the first instenck is to get a baby
Most certainly worth considering. I wanted the full parenting experience the first time, from infancy on, so I adopted an infant, but for a second child, adopting an older child could be very rewarding for all concerned.
Very interesting! I did at one point had two of my nephews 7,9,I had a two yr old at the time and I would of kept them but the mom wanted them back!
I understand why people don't adopt children that are older a lot of adoptive parents already have children and children who are older tend to have their formation already.Experts say from 0-5yrs. a child build it's structure (formation) into the person they'll become, that you can modify it but not completely change and when you're trying to raise a family it's easier when everyone is on the same page. I love my nephews and it was different cuz it's fam. But I can tell you that it took lots of time to get us situated!
I don't say not to adopt older children but I can understand why some choose not to adopt them. A lot of adoptive parents however do adopt older children and children with disabilities I know of several people who adopted older kids! and some with disabilities!
I am a married 22 year old with a 3 month old and I want to adopt in about 3-4 years. I never really thought about adoption untill I was 18 and my parents adopted a 2 month old. I have seen the love that my sister has for all of us and I have watched all her firsts and I will get the same chance with my daughter. I have looked into adoption and I couldnt believe the number of older children waiting to be adopted. Most dont wnat teenagers but its a shame when Its hard to place 6 or 7 year olds. Whats wrong with the people of this world. My sister is 5 and still a baby and a 6 year old needs to be in a family and not in a foster home with 10 other kids. I want to adopt an older child. I think the older the better ebcause thats the ones no one wants. And I dont care about color either. Color is just a color.
We've been waiting to adopt older children for quite a while. They keep giving us emergency foster kids..and toddlers at that! We're to the point that we only want to talk about kids who are legally free, but our (county) worker is dragging her feet because she wants to place county kids with us.
Why would potential adoptive parents be the only one targeted for this obligation? Why wouldn't you pose the same question to those trying to conceive their children instead of adopting the already existing children who need help instead?
