Who stole Samoan children to 'place' with American adoptive couples. And any opinions on what the adopters had to say in this video?

Oh, girl…do I EVER have comments on some of those "parents". The one woman, from Texas, who wouldnt give her name? She was on the courthouse steps towards the end of the piece. She said about the agency,"They stole children…and one of them is mine."
That was so ridiculous. Umm, no, she is NOT yours. She was STOLEN, and you are NOT her mother.
The other mother (she was the blonde woman who needs an eye job, lol) said, "She (Jayden, her Samoan kidnapee) filled in that circle that needed to be filled. She fulfilled ME."
Yeah. Because adoption is supposed to be all about you, huh, cow?
She said she is "worried someones going to come grab her away"…I hope they do. These people are even worse than the "agency", in my opinion. They now KNOW these children were illegally obtained, yet choose to look the other way. I really do not know how IA parents can sleep at night. "Found in an alley" my butt.
Mike Nyberg did the right thing by returning that girl to her family. While I am morally opposed to IA anyway, this man is an outstanding human, who actually KNOWS what a parent should do. That is IS about the child.
I think the agency people should be in jail for years and years and years. But that would never happen…..brings too much bad press to the adoption industry. It would make people investigate more. Ssshhhh. Let's lay low…..
have a yarn to the state prosecutor and try and drive the worst / max case you can have…..statewide / national to bring this to public
The agency "Focus on Children" is no longer in existence (http://poundpuplegacy.org/node/27006)
I'm sure that this will cause people to think all adopted children were stolen or kidnapped. It is sad and terrible that this happened and that people had to use the disguise of good to do something wrong thus upsetting families all over the place and causing pain and insecurity in the children that it affects.
Not all adoptions are like this. Many in this country are done legally and legitimately, but unfortunately there are scum like the now defunct agency that exist- even if briefly- to take advantage for the sake of money.
This whole situation is despicable and the owners of this agency got off way, way, way too easy. Besides obvious and severe jail time, they should also be financially liable to not only the adoptive parents, but the first parents as well. And they should be required to setup college funds for all the children. And then of course they have social pariah-hood and hell to look forward to.
As for the adoptive parents: my heart breaks for them. This is a tragedy for everyone involved: all sets of parents and especially the children. The father who sent his daughter back to her parents is truly an impressive person and it sounds like he is going to remain a part of her life. Sending her back, I have no doubt must have killed him, but he felt he was doing the right thing. As for the other parents: I honestly don't know how I feel about that. I honestly don't know what I would do in the same situation.
Regardless, I hope that both sets of parents include the other in their child's life.
Thats horrible! They should do hard time for what they did, insted slaps on the wrists, lol but the story after that was funny…..the old lady with the pot
This is a horrible situation and they should be punished. Prison time, they should have to set up funds for the kids and their families and pay back every dime that they took. It still won't make up for what they did. Nothing will.
As for the families. Its heartbreaking all around. Its not like this just happened. For some of the kids they were placed back in 2002. Thats 7 years of being with the adoptive families. In some cases longer than they were with their biological families. While legally they should be returned in some cases it will probably be harder on the child to leave everyone they know/remember, the place they were raised, the culture the grew up in and return to their home. Hopefully all families will be able to come to agreements so that all can be involved in the kids lives. I'd also hope the kids could have some say in where they stay.
Prior to the end of Capital Punishment during the late 1970's, this would have been covered under the Lindberg Laws and they would have faced Kidnapping charges, with a good possibility of execution. This IS kidnapping! I don't understand the thinking of the courts, that a crime that under any other circumstance would have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, given a slap on the wrist when adoption is thrown into the mix. These people should have been put into prison for years. Instead, they are doing probation?! Incredible! I read in an Australian paper today that they placed 81 children from Samoa. I hear these adopters whining, but what about their parents in Samoa.
One interesting thing that I thought of earlier today…a good share of Samoa is actually an American territory and the citizens are American Nationals. I noticed that in some of the articles it stated that the children were American citizens, so I wonder if these are international adoptions or just more exploitation of other Americans. If they were just another foreign country we exploit for infants to feed the demand for exotic infants, would it have gotten any attention at all. We show such contempt for the sanctity of other nations, seeing their children as a commodity to be exploited. It is little wonder that the rest of the world hates us.
Dear Gypsy,
IMO, justice would be:
*jail time (minimum one year per child)
*seizure of the adoption agency and all assets
*fines to the guilty parties
The bulk of the money should be awarded to the children in trust funds which will cover legal fees, travel, therapy and co-parenting arrangements for the children's families. These trusts should be managed by unbiased third parties.
I also think a portion of the assets should be used for some kind of family preservation organization in Samoa.
I don't think there is anything that will ever make this right. These children deserve so much. I wish all of them well.
There is one family who has returned the child they had adopted to her original family. I am touched by their actions. They are amazing people and my heart goes out to them.
(I can't get the video to play but I'll try again later.)
Prison time.
Lifetime prison sentence.
Pray and leave them to the God that created baby God will deal with them trust me…
