What is the average cost of a newborn adoption through an adoption agency?

My husband and I are wanting a baby and have been unsuccessful for three years now. What should we expect financially for a domestic adoption? ,000, ,000, ,000??? We have no clue.

Actually agencies are not the only place to adopt a child. There are children services who can help and also groups such as this one: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MyPrivateAdoption/ where you can ask questions and try to help each other.
My friends paid $30,000 – JUST TO GET THEIR NAME ON A WAITING LIST.
There’s no guarantees. You fork out all the money and wait.
They waited 3 months and got a call one cold Wednesday in December. They were told to go to a certain hospital that Friday and to bring an infant car seat. Their son would be 3 days old and "free and clear" to come home. Blond haired, blue eyed baby boy, just like they ordered. (you think I’m kidding, but I’m not!)
Adoption from foster care is cheaper. Sometimes even free. Yes, there are babies available, if you want to wait.

Well, your question and the first poster’s answer just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy – my son had a price tag on him. He was bought and sold to people who "had no clue" of how much it costs to separate a mother and child. They only knew that the baby came with a price tag, probably attached to his toe and that he would fill the dream (blond haired/blue eyed baby) of someone who basically couldn’t reproduce.
Yikes!
Expectant mothers are not lined up by the hundreds of thousands wanting to give away their newborns. If this wasn’t true than those wanting newborns wouldn’t be waiting for years and agencies and lawyers wouldn’t have the number of pap’s waiting like they do.
The demand for newborns is not only responsible for the cost, it is the driving force behind unethical practices against expectant mothers and their newborns.

i have been looking at wbsites after another. i mean how can they be so high.. but did you know that you can get clearence babies it just breaks my heart. but i have seen agencies that has them from 5000.00 to 65000.00

wayyyy too much. Up in the tens of thousands. But you can find a birthmother yourself by advertising in free clinics, welfare offices, ect. and end up paying next to nothing. Just make sure they sign a paper saying if they take money from you for baby expenses and fail to surrender at birth they have to pay you back
I didn’t know you had to pay.. I thought you were doing them a service, not the other way round.
Must it be a newborn?
First of all you will have to "market" yourself to expectant mothers. In other words make yourself sound good enough that a complete stranger would be willing to give you their own flesh and blood.
Don’t get me wrong I am not anti-adoption. I actually adopted my daughter from China. She was a special needs child needing one simple surgery and she had been abandoned by her birth family so she truly needed a home.
If you are set on a white newborn then the average cost is $20,000 to around $100,000 depending on many things.
Wow – I believe that the money would be better off earning interest in an account for a college fund – adopt from Foster Care – it’s virtually free.
Although our adoption was not a newborn (10 months old), we paid under 7K including all legal fees, counselling for his bio mom and homestudy.
That’s Canada. No adoption agencies…licensees only. Our only costs up front were for the homestudy and the retainer for the licensee who worked with her husband at the law firm.
Perhaps if cost is a big issue foster adoption is an option. And if you can be a little more flexible with age…there are toddlers in need of homes.
Parenting a child who isn’t a newborn is so gratifying. We wouldn’t change a thing and would gladly adopt older than newborn again. It was a perfect fit as a family for us.
